CNN —The Duchess of Edinburgh has become the first member of the British royal family to visit Ukraine since Russia’s invasion in 2022, Buckingham Palace announced on Monday. The duchess is a champion of the UK’s Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative and the United Nations’ Women, Peace and Security Agenda. Sophie met survivors of conflict-related sexual violence and torture, as well as children who were allegedly forcibly separated from their families by Russia, according to Buckingham Palace. The two-day poll concluded on Thursday showed Americans are deeply divided on immigration, even within their political parties. Following a highly-publicized drive by Republican governors to bus or fly thousands of migrants to Democratic areas in recent months, 53% of Republican respondents in the poll said they supported the practice. Sixteen percent of Democrats supported the practice and 55% were opposed. Forty-five percent of respondents in the Reuters/Ipsos poll - including 63% of Democrats and 31% of Republicans - said state leaders transporting migrants were committing illegal migrant trafficking. The poll, conducted online in English throughout the United States, gathered responses from 1,005 adults, including 449 Democrats and 361 Republicans.

"Florida is not on the US-Mexico border, so the migrants were transported to Martha's Vineyard from Texas on Floridians' dime." It's carefully-chosen language on DeSantis' part but doesn't represent the reality for most migrants, according to immigration experts. The migrants who landed in Martha's Vineyard last week were given misleading brochures promising cash assistance and job placement services before touching down on the island, according to lawyers for the migrants.

DeSantis claimed credit for a pair of chartered flights on Wednesday that carried around 50 migrants to Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, as part of a broader Republican effort to shift responsibility for border crossers to Democratic leaders. "There may be more flights, there may be buses," he said to cheers and applause from backers in the crowd. The state paid $615,000 to Vertol Systems Company Inc, an aviation business, on Sept. 8 as part of a "relocation program of unauthorized aliens," Florida state data showed. The flights to Martha's Vineyard follow a busing effort by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, another Republican, that has sent more than 10,000 migrants to the Democrat-controlled cities of Washington, New York and Chicago since April. The Republican governor of Arizona also has sent more than 1,800 migrants to Washington.
